AbbVie Rheumatoid Arthritis Patient Calculator

AbbVie needed an iPad tool for pharmaceutical reps to use in physician offices, walking doctors through three distinct rheumatoid arthritis patient profiles and demonstrating how different disease activity measures classify each case. The interface had to make genuinely complex clinical scoring feel navigable in a sales conversation.
What I Built
The app centers on four animated gauge dials per patient, visualizing scores across RAPID-3, DAS28, CDAI, and SDAI classifications. Physicians could adjust physician-assessed scores using a slider and toggle Boolean Remission on and off, with all four gauges updating in real time. Three patient profiles multiplied by the interactive states produced hundreds of unique screen layouts, all managed through an efficient component and symbol system in Sketch.
The Challenge
The combinatorial complexity was the core design challenge. Every slider position, every toggle state, every patient switch had to resolve correctly across all four scoring systems simultaneously. Getting that to feel intuitive rather than clinical required careful information hierarchy and visual design that guided the eye without cluttering the data.
